Who is Couples Psychotherapy for?

  • Couples who want to understand how the conflict in their relationship has arisen, how it functions and what interferes with resolving it.
  • Couples who want to regularly and objectively asses their relationship to 'nip in the bud' any sign of destructive conflict that may be developing.
  • Couples who are ending a marriage or long-term relationship and want guidance in dealing with the associated grieving, life rebuilding and managing this painful process for any children invloved.

We all bring to relationships 'blind spots' from our previous experience in life, but we are not always conscious of this. Couples psychotherapy aims to reveal what lies behind the conflict in a relationship by attending to the conscious and unconscious aspects to facilitate lasting change. Whether heterosexual, gay, married or not, couples psychotherapy provides a safe and strictly confidential setting for exploring relationship issues.

How is it arranged?

First you ring or email to make an appointment for your initial consultation (0437 632 589, kennethmilling(at)iinet.net.au). The initial consultation runs for 60 minutes. See 'What are the fees' below for further explanation. At the initial consultation we will explore the conflict in your relationship and discuss how to proceed. Couples psychotherapy usually comprises weekly 60-minute sessions at the same time every week. Some couples are helped sufficiently by just a few weekly consultations, whilst other couples require consultations over a number of months. Referrals can be made to other health professionals if necessary.

Who will I see?
